Instructions
IMPORTANT: When mixing paint we recommend to use personal protection equipment including dust mask, gloves and safety glasses. If splashed on skin, rinse immediately. Lime is alkaline and although a healthy choice for your walls, it is an irritant if inhaled or comes in contact with skin.
What surface are you painting over?
If you are painting over an already painted surface: Firstly, apply any lime-safe primer available at any paint store.
If you are painting on a surface that has NOT been previously painted with a plastic paint, for example bare brick or concrete, fabric, or wood you may possibly skip using a primer, ask us for advice.
We suggest doing a test patch first before proceeding.
Equipment:
1 x large bucket
1 x wooden spoon/stirring utensil
1 x kitchen scales or measuring jug
1 stick blender for mixing or drill attachment for stirring
Small spray bottle for wetting wall
Tap temperature Water (not hot) - measurements below dependent on packet size
Ratios:
1 x kilogram bag Lime au Lait Powdered Paint (add 1.5 Litre of water)
1 x 100 gram bag Lime au Lait Powdered Paint (add 150ml of water)
For a thicker mix add less water.
Preparation:
1. Empty bag of powder into a dry large bucket and lightly stir with spoon until ingredients are mixed.
2. Measure appropriate amount of water (see amounts above dependent on bag size) and add to bucket of powdered mix and continue to stir until mixed together.
3. Use stick blender for several minutes to ensure all ingredients are integrated then allow to stand overnight (best for hydration) or for 4 hours minimum.
First Coat: Prior to using make sure the paint is well stirred as pigment and lime may fall to the bottom of the bucket, use the stick blender again. Depending on your surface you are painting you may need to use a spray bottle and spritz the wall lightly. Continue to spritz lightly as needed. Continue to stir paint every 30 minutes or so, to make sure it is well mixed .
Second Coat: Preferably leave first coat of Lime wash to dry overnight (at least 6 hours) before applying your second coat. Sometimes you may only require one coat depending on the “look” you want to achieve.
A third coat may also be desired depending on the look you require. Before proceeding with a third coat, allow second coat to dry fully - lime paint will lighten dramatically becoming much lighter in appearance so wait before applying a 3rd coat. Most applications only require two coats.
Storage and Disposal:
Although not necessary you may want to keep your mixed paint covered with a lid, if storing for more than a few days this is advisable. Rinse brushes and buckets under an outside tap or allow the paint to settle in the bucket then dispose of the solids into your compost or normal household rubbish. Wash brushes in water and leave to dry.
